The Fall and Rise Of The Snapback Cap

Whilst it’s true that snapback caps went out of fashion for a while in favour of fitted hats, they’re back with a vengeance. They’ve been around since the early 1900’s and not without good reason. They’re among the most worn and most fashionable hats you can buy today; indeed just about anyone who is looking to project their own certain style and image has a snapback cap or two in their collection.

So What’s Hot?

Snapbacks with a retro feel and those with a vintage vibe are making a huge come back. Caps emblazoned with a sports team be it baseball, American football or ice hockey are all big right now, and you don’t have to go far to see everyone from celebrities, rappers or athletes taking on the vintage retro feel.

Branded Snapbacks

In addition to vintage retro, branded snapbacks are certainly raising up in the style stakes. Top brands like DGK, Fox Boys, Vans, DVS and WeSC have some pretty wicked designs and are pushing the boundaries, in terms of colour and theme. So why the comeback?

Comfort First

As much as fitted hats have been popular, it seems that recently people are looking for a hat that’s comfortable, adjustable and can be worn for long periods of time without restricting them. The first place to turn was to the old faithful snapback cap which has been providing all of these things for many years.

Celebrity Persuasion

In essence, anyone who’s anyone has recently been photographed wearing a snapback cap. As a result it has made us look in the back of our closets, dust off the faithful snapback and wear it again with pride.

Because They’re Retro

Anything retro is hot right now and as the 80’s and 90’s were the pinnacle of the snapback’s fame, where everyone from sports stars to politicians wore them, it was only going to be a matter of time before they were due a come-back.

So What Next for the Snapback?

It seems that for the moment the snapback is here to stay. It’s been given a well-deserved rejuvenation as many top designer brands have jumped on the reinvention wagon. Who knows what’s in store for the snapback cap. One thing’s certain though, in terms of comfort and practicality, there’s nothing that does the job better, and that’s why the snapback is likely to be around for many years to come.
